Hi, my name is Aliyah and I am an aspiring journalist, trying to change the way people think, and make a difference in the world.


I am currently a graduating senior at the University of California, Berkeley looking to get into a media related career. I am a Media Studies and English major, and I currently write for the Daily Californian as a General Assignment reporter on a wide range of subjects, while free lancing for other news organizations. I have worked as a news reporter for the last five years at various campus newspapers covering both campus and city news as well the local impact of national and international events. I interned for two summers at the Council on American Islamic Relations- San Francisco Bay Area Office handling all things media relations, one summer in a marketing communications capacity and most recently was a web and editorial intern for the Post Papers and NBC Bay Area.

I helped to produce articles and other content for the Milpitas Post, Fremont Bulletin and Beryessa Sun. I wrote stories that affect the community, whether that is writing about crime, local politics and human-interest stories.

I was in charge of making sure that our weekly newspaper production ran smoothly. I was in charge of assigning stories and ensuring they got turned in and made sure the pages were created and content was copy-edited and placed on it's respective page before deadline.

I copy-edited all the content as it came in, and then again once the stories were placed on the pages in indesign and once again as they became PDFs and went to the printer. I was the go between between the section editors and the reporters, and I aided both the editors and reporters in whatever they need to finish their sections and stories by deadline.

I wrote a wide range of stories from basketball games to in-depth stories about how the budget cuts affect the Foothill-De Anza District. Whenever we had a breaking story that needed a fast turn around, I was assigned to it. I also took pictures, and helped create graphics to accompany stories.
